Microsoft has scored a surprise victory over Sony, as the Xbox One outsells the PS4.
According to NPD figures revealed by Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox One enjoyed its highest console share ever in December.
“Thank you to everyone who helped support Xbox One this holiday, @npdgroup just reported our highest Xbox One December console share ever, looking forward to a big 2018!” he tweeted.
In a follow-up tweet, Greenberg confirmed that the Xbox One outsold PS4 in North America for the month of December.
But it wasn’t all good news, because the Xbox One was still second to the Nintendo Switch.
“Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X,” Greenberg continued.
“But yes Xbox outsold PS4 in December for Gen 8 consoles according to NPD data, while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units.”
Keen to capitalize on recent successes, Microsoft looks set to make major changes to the Xbox Achievements system.
A new leak suggests Microsoft is working on a brand new Career system that could transform the way you play.
Potentially working alongside Achievements, the Career system would see players increase in levels and earn prestige ranks by playing games.
That’s according to Windows Central, which suggests players will be rewarded with cosmetic Avatar items by opening loot crates.
There’s even rumors of a Quests feature in which players can earn rewards by completing objectives such as playing certain games.
Other rumors suggest Microsoft is planning to release a new game in the Forza Horizon series.
A new listing on the Brazilian ratings board suggests that a new Forza game is in development.
The listing suggests that Forza Horizon 4 is coming to Xbox One and PC in 2018.
What’s less clear is the identity of the developer, especially with rumours that Playground is working on a new project.
The rumours suggest that Playground is working on an action RPG, which has led some people to speculate that a new Fable game is coming.
